Please please please don't give your opinions on the following sentence because that will only make things more confusing and stressful, regardless of your intentions. I have practically decided that I need a break from college to at least figure out where the hell to start. So, assuming that happens, I don't think it will do me any good to stay at home; I feel it would be best if I was on my own for a while. After talking with a great friend of mine about this, he mentioned that he and his roommate have one too many rooms in their apartment and he would be happy to let me take it. His roommate is also a fairly good friend, though not quite as close, but I still think that means it would go over well with her too. So, yeah. No idea when/if it will happen, but just in case.... I figured I'd pop this up here in case any of you guys know of anything awesome along the route and/or in the Danville area.

Charlotte has the NASCAR hall of fame, a bunch of racing history if you're into that, and some really neato car culture.

Take the gray route as it takes you up through the mountains and eventually through Franklin/Waynesville/Asheville and all the Great Smokies action. It's sooooooo much more fulfilling than taking I-85 through SC. I-40 over Old Fort is always fun as well.
The caveat in all this is the weather though... if it's nice then you most definitely want to take the mountain trip, if it's rough going and winter weather or hard rain hits, you'll want to stick to taking the major interstate. I'm from Waynesville and have driven the mountain path a few times including the end of December and it's actually much faster than what's usually estimated.

+1 for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Check first before committing; the road is usually closed during the winter.

If you take the blue route, you will go right past the BMW plant. Maybe they've got a tour? There's also the performance center "out back" behind the plant

They have a tour of the factory, and the Zentrum museum. Both are cool. Zentrum is free and very nice. Tour is maybe $5, but you need a reservation.
